When Love Starts Feeling Like Worship
One of those sentences that makes you stop and ask yourself, “Did I really say that?”
On one hand, it’s deeply romantic.
On the other, slightly concerning.
Because let’s be honest—when it comes to relationships, sometimes we lose perspective just a little.
Loving someone is one thing…
Turning them into a flawless being in your mind—almost like your own personal deity—is something else entirely.
At the beginning of a relationship, we all lose our minds a little anyway.
They send a text, and your heart races.
A voice note arrives, and you listen to it three times.
They text “Good morning,” and suddenly it feels like they’ve won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
After a while, even the most ordinary things start feeling extraordinary.
“The way they drink coffee… amazing.”
“Their walk is so charismatic.”
“They breathed today… incredible.”
Then life slowly removes the romantic filter.
Socks on the floor.
Short replies.
The same argument happening for the third time.
The child doesn’t sleep all night.
And that’s exactly when you start waking up.
Maybe love is this: seeing how ordinary, flawed, and human someone truly is—and still being able to say, “It’s okay. I’m still here.”
Because real intimacy doesn’t grow in perfection; it grows in reality.
If you worship someone, disappointment will eventually find you.
But if you truly love someone, you learn to know both their light and their shadow.
Maybe what we need in relationships is a little less worship…
And a little more reality.
And plenty of humour.
Because, let’s be honest—life becomes much more bearable with someone you can laugh with.
